Here's my latest cartoon that launched on TOONHOLE. I'm pretty happy with the turnout. Of course there are things I'd change now (there always is)...but I learned a lot making this film. On to more comics for now! Next I might try tackling an original animated music video with my brother Jordan.

Got another short in the pipeline. This as well as my last film will debut sometime this summer, along with films from the other "ToonHole.com" guys.

btw, i just bought ArtRage 2.5 and used it for this painting. It's fantastic. I'm going to paint all my BGs using Artrage 2.5 (visit Sherm Cohen's cartoon blog for some great tutorials and reviews).

RADIOHEAD music video contest

I'm sure anybody into either animation or Radiohead has heard about this contest by now (check aniboom.com if you don't know what i'm talking about). Normally i don't like these kind of contests but with this one its a sweet deal because winners are voted through in stages. Meaning, i don't have to spend endless nights rendering out a final video that might not even make the cut...instead i create a ruff animatic to give an overall feel for what i'm going for and from there people decide what vid they'd like to see complete, and there are nice prizes involved : )

Anywho, I love the album and couldn't resist. Here's my board pass.

"Bigguns" animation is finished...

YeeHaw! It's official! "Big-guns" animation is complete! All that's left now is compositing fixes, SFX, and I'm gonna try to score the film with my band. If you're wondering when it'll be viewable, it's going to premiere online as soon as the Katzenjammer Studio (http://katzenjammerstudios.blogspot.com/) website launches (which is nearing). Keep them eyes peeled ya'll!

until then, here are some poses and parts i used for the project. Hopefully i'll be able to post some animation clips soon.

Man, prismacolors are so fun..but I get freaked out at how dark they look before they dry. It takes "artistic balls" to take a prismacolor marker to a good sketch...

Well, I decided to go with a classy illustration for my graduation announcements. It's been a tough journey but working in the animation has made every second of college worth it. Thanks to all my buddies who went through it with me and pushed me...go CSUF alum!!

The "BigGuns" animatic has been locked and my stock characters are cleaned up and rigged ('Flashed' with blinks and mouth charts).
Eventhough the film will be animated using Flash puppets (somewhat limited), I will try to draw and ink every special pose without trying to cheat parts too much. Keep checking back though, and hopefully I'll have some teaser scenes/grabs for ya!

I've always been a fan of good album art on jewel cases, and always thought it really does help me determine wheter or not I should invest in the music. So when it became time to design my band's album art for our upcoming EP, I tried to keep it as simple and subjective as possible. There is a little backstory to the fish, but I thought about how this would catch eyes in relation to all the other CDs around it (if on a store shelf).

So I've been taking the plein air painting course over at CSUF to gain a more sophisticated sense of color and I think it's paying off...although I've still got a long way to go. I never realized how much stuff there is to take in! It's really tough, but it's totally fun to paint outdoors.

Here's my most recent self interpretation of yours truly. I was playing around with that loose coloring technique i see a lot. I actually like it! I think it gives the drawing a lot of personality and style (for lack of a better term). I also used Erich Haeger's tutorial on varying the line weight in illustrator for the inking. This was good times, eventhough the likeness is not 100%

This is gonna be the cover to my sketchbook (in progress) for comic-con this year, appropriately titled "Draw!" i still gotta work out a BG and font/color scheme.

although, that is the revised drawing...i originally had him more straight on about to "draw" but i'm not completely convinced which one i like more. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
